ARTIST STATEMENT: by Samuel Thomas

Our traditional teachings tell us we should have compassion, good minds and work together of one mind. This project is designed around these teachings. The main goal of this project is to demonstrate that today we still try to live by the teachings of our First Nations ancestors.

This international project is based on a highly successful Ontario Arts Council Touring and Collaborations project that I put together in the spring of 2001, held at various locations throughout Ontario. I have secured funding for 7 majour organizations in the United States to participate in this exciting international venture. I plan to include 5 provinces from the West Coast to the East Coast across Canada.

This project will be a significant assurance of Iroquoian presence and traditional existence: it will help to provide unity through the next millennium. The moral and cultural values instilled in the context of this project form the foundation, strength and understanding of which we are today.

In a larger context, the overall collaboration of this multi-cultural, cross-generational project will demonstrate that it is possible for all peoples of all nations to come together "Of One Mind" to create in unity...
